Abstract
The leprosy bacillus was discovered by Hansen in 1873 in lepra cells ( mononuclear epitheloid cells ) of patients with leprosy and two tears later, this organism was called 'Bacillus leprae. In 1896 , the tern Mycobacterium leprae was proposed by Lehmann and Neumann on the basic of its acid fastness and this term is generally use at present.
