Bacteriophage therapy, while showing potential in treating bacillary dysentery, has not consistently demonstrated effectiveness, particularly in the Flexner type. Early studies suggested promising results, but later investigations, including those with controlled settings, have shown limited in vivo impact. Some studies even suggest that phage therapy may not be as effective as other treatments, like antibiotics.
